Congratulations to the Detroit Section 2011/2012 Scholarship Winners!

This year the AWS Detroit Section has awarded 31 welding scholarships totaling $34,500. These scholarships are made available to Michigan residents and/or students enrolled in a welding or welding related programs at a college or university in the State of Michigan. The candidates all submitted an application, including transcripts of their academic achievement, and a brief letter about their background, their goals and ambitions, and any additional factors that would help the Section Scholarship Committee determine eligibility for an award.

The 31 recipients of the 2011 – 2012 Scholarships will be attending Lansing Community College, St. Clair Community College, Michigan Tech University or Ferris State University.

The scholarship recipients are all invited to attend the September Technical Meeting as a guest of the Detroit Section to receive recognition of these awards.

2011 - 2012 American Welding Society-Detroit Section Scholarship Winners

The Robert L. Wilcox Scholarship was awarded to Devan Depauw, Ferris State University.

The James W. Mitchell Scholarship was awarded to Cameron Kuperus, Ferris State University.

The Amos and Marilyn Winsand Scholarship, funded by the A.W.S. Foundation, was awarded to Jacob Quisenberry, Ferris State University.

Welding Scholarships

for ASSOCIATE or BACHELOR Degree in WELDING ENGINEERING, WELDING ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY, or RELATED FIELDS.

For students pursuing an Associate or Bachelor degree in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology. These scholarships provide money to be used for the student's tuition, books, or lab fees for one year. To be eligible for these scholarships, you must be enrolled in a two (2) or four (4) year engineering degree program in Welding, Welding Technology or a related field. The program supports students attending schools in the state of Michigan and the following counties in the province of Ontario: Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton. However, it is not restricted to the aforementioned schools if the students are residents of the state of Michigan or the following counties in the province of Ontario: Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton. Full-time or part-time students may apply. Application forms are available on the AWS Detroit section website.
