2009-2010 AWS - Detroit Section Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to the Detroit Section 2009/2010 Scholarship Winners!

This year the AWS Detroit Section has awarded 33 welding scholarships totaling $37,500. These scholarships are made available to Michigan residents and/or students enrolled in a welding or welding related programs at a college or university in the State of Michigan. The candidates all submitted an application, including transcripts of their academic achievement, and a brief letter about their background, their goals and ambitions, and any additional factors that would help the Section Scholarship Committee determine eligibility for an award.

The 33 recipients of the 2009 – 2010 Scholarships will be attending Michigan Technological University, Wayne
County Community College District, or Ferris State University.

The scholarship recipients are all invited to attend the September Technical Meeting as a guest of the Detroit Section to receive recognition of these awards.

2009 - 2010 American Welding Society-Detroit Section Scholarship Winners

The Robert L. Wilcox Scholarship was awarded to Steven Hart, Ferris State University.

The James W. Mitchell Scholarship was awarded to Eric Koster, Ferris State University.

The Amos and Marilyn Winsand Scholarship, funded by the A.W.S. Foundation, was awarded to Thomas Bartolomucci, Ferris State University.

Welding Scholarships

for ASSOCIATE or BACHELOR Degree in WELDING ENGINEERING, WELDING ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY, or RELATED FIELDS.

For students pursuing an Associate or Bachelor degree in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Tehnology, our scholarships provide funds to be used for the student's tuition, books, or lab fees for one year. To be eligible for these scholarships, you must be enrolled in a two (2) or four (4) year engineering degree program in Welding, Welding Technology or a related field. The program supports students attending schools in the state of Michigan and the following counties in the province of Ontario: Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton. However, it is not restricted to the aforementioned schools if the students are residents of the state of Michigan or the following counties in the province of Ontario: Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton. Full-time or part-time students may apply. Application forms are available on the AWS Detroit section website. The application dealine for the 2010/2011 academic year is April 1, 2010.
